Family News 2009-10

Chip Riedmann is proud to announce that his pilsner beer won 1st place for the Bohemian Pilsner category at the 2010 Douglas County Fair. He has won ribbons before but this the highest place he has earned. He said "Brewing must be in our blood, coming from my grandfather and great-grandfather".

Last Spring a nasty storm blew threw Hortonville, WI where Bill Van Moorleghem lives. The damage in the area was brutal; knocking trees down and snapping many in half. Thankfully a group of volunteer came to his rescue to remove all the fallen trees. Fortunately Bill and his house, amazingly, survived the storm. See the following local Fox news website for the complete story including an an interview with Bill.

The Riedmann Family gained two Pharmacists in May. Matt and Jennifer Van Moorleghem both have received their doctorate of Pharmacy degrees. Matt on May 15th from Creighton and Jennifer on May 8th from UNMC. The couple are temporarily in Indianapolis, Indiana where Matt is working for CVS and Jenny is furthering her education, specializing in Pediatrics.

Sean and Jordan Van Moorleghem are proud to announce the arrival of their son Peter Thomas. Peter was born the evening of July 12th, 2010. The future Nebraska wide receiver or defensive back (according to the father) weighed in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. and 21 in. long. He can do the 40 in 4.45 and benchpress 6 lbs. 5 times. He is projected to be a 5 star recruit and his nickname is "The great white hope". Oh, mom and dad are doing well.

Matthew and Jennifer were married on October 17th, 2009 at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. The reception was held at Legacy Hall. The day's entertainment was polka band in the true Riedmann tradition. Kolache was served by the bride's mother followed by a dinner and dance. Jennifer is from St. Paul, Nebraska.

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of our daughter, sister, mother and cousin Mary Pat Greene. Mary Pat died peacefully at home with her family on September 19, 2009. She is survived by her children Tricia, Daniel and David. Services were held at St. Thomas More Church by her nephew Fr. Jeff Mollner and she has been interred at Calvary Cemetery.

The Riedmann Reunion, the first held since 2002, returned to the home of Lou and Sharon Riedmann this past August. It was a delightful event with 136 Riedmanns in attendance from all reaches of the family and all parts of the country (Long Island, New York to Olympia, Washington). The weather was beautiful, the location was great and the committee did a great job of organizing a marvelous weekend of activities for everyone to enjoy. Events included a tour of the Botanical Garden including the Herb Garden which the Riedmann family was instrumental on starting, a golf outing at Indian Creek and Gary Elsasser had a beach party at his house. The big event was the reunion Saturday afternoon with great food and fun for all. See the Reunion webpage for more details on the event.

It was recently announced in the Nebraska State Bar Magazine that Francie Riedmann has been inducted as Fellows of the Litigation Counsel of America. The magazines states that "The honor is annually bestowed on 30 lawyers who meet the foundations guidelines of integrity and character, dedication to improving the administration of justice, recognition as a leader of the legal profession by colleagues, financial support of the foundation and geographical representation." That is quite an impressive honor and we are all proud of her. It also states she has briefed and made arguments to the Nebraska State Supreme Court in over 50 cases.

If you know of any other family news, please pass it on and we will be glad to post it. Births, graduations, weddings, etc. Which reminds me…If anyone would like to send me a picture I'd be glad to add it too.
