MARY PAT (RIEDMANN) GREENE PASSES PEACEFULLY
It is with deep regret we announce the passing of our daughter, sister,
mother and cousin Mary Pat Greene. Pary Pat died peacefully at home with
her family on September 19, 2009. She is survived by her children Tricia,
Daniel and David. Services were held at St Thomas More Church by her nephew
Fr. Jeff Mollner and she has been inturned at Calvary Cemetary.
RIEDMANN REUNION 2009 BIG SUCCESS
The Riedmann Reunion, the first held since 2002, returned to the home
of Lou and Sharon Riedmann this past August. It was a delightful event
with 136 Riedmanns in attendance from all reaches of the family and all
parts of the country (Long Island, New York to Olympia, Washingtion).
The weather was beautiful, the location was great and the committee did
a great job of organizing a marvelous weekend of activities for everyone
to enjoy. Events included a tour of the Botanical Garden including the
Herb Garden which the Riedmann family was instrumental on starting, a
golf outing at Indian Creek and Gary Elsasser had a beach party at his
house. The big event was the reunion Saturday afternoon with great food
and fun for all. See the Reunion webpage for more details on the event.
FRANCIE RIEDMANN EARNS LEGAL AWARD
It was recently announced in the Nebraska State Bar Magazine that Francie
Riedmann has been inducted as Fellows of the Litigation Counsel of America.
The magazines states that "The honor is annually bestowed on 30 lawyers
who meet the foundations guidelines of integrity and character, dedication
to improving the administration of justice, recognition as a leader of
the legal profession by colleagues, financial support of the foundation
and geographical representation." That is quite an impressive honor
and we are all proud of her. It also states she has briefed and made arguments
to the Nebraska State Supreme Court in over 50 cases.
NATALIE RIEDMANN TAPPED AS FIRST DOCTOR IN FAMILY
Natalie Riedmann, better known across the country as the "hot tutor"
for Tommy Lee Jones in his short- lived television sitcom, has graduated
with a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical School.
Dr. Riedmann is now serving her residency at North Carolina University
in Pediatrics. As her grandfather said, "The Hot Tutor became the
Smart Tutor and now is Doctor Tutor". Before starting her residency
she worked in the Bahamas at a free clinic serving the local population.
They called her "Doctor Lady".
AL AND KRISSY TIE THE KNOT
Al Riedmann and Krissy McGinley finally got married on June 10th on the
beach in Waikiki, Hawaii. What a way to do it! A small reception was held
in Omaha for his family. Al also was honored as the 2008 TruGreen LandCare
President's Club Winner. Among the many impressive accounts he handles
are Boeing, Chateau St. Michelle and Wells Fargo Bank. When asked what
was the best career advice he ever received he said "My father (a
retired U.S. Marine) used to talk to me about 'soldiering,' which meant
putting your head down and giving 110% effort everyday! His advice meant
that if you worked hard and earned good results, your efforts would gain
notice, and that job satisfaction, advancement, and a sense of self worth,
would be your ultimate reward."
WATKINS CONCRETE EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
Lou Riedmann accepted for Watkins Concrete Block Co. the 2009 Sarpy County
Business Progress Award from the Sarpy Count Economic Development Council.
This is prestigious award as past winners include Ameritrade and PayPal
and Werner Enterprises. Lou is the former president and chairman of the
board of Watkins and was instrumental in building the company to its current
position of excellence.
ERIN STEIN MARRIES MICHAEL LENCIONI
Erin and Michael were married on June 14th at PST Patrick Church in Wadsworth,
IL. The reception was held at Brae Loch Golf Club in Grayslake, IL. After
the wedding they went on their honeymoon in Jamaica. Our Aunt Renie reports
it was an eventful trip just getting to Lindenhurst where Erin's parents,
Sandy and Jim, live as some of the roads were blocked because of the flooding
in Iowa. If it weren't for the modern convenience of cell phones it would
have taken forever. They had to go through Wisconsin to get there.
JEFFREY MOLLNER TO BE ORDAINED IN JUNE
Joseph and Jayne Mollner are proud to announce the ordination of their
son Jeffrey in the Catholic priesthood. The invocation will be by the
Most Reverend Eldon Curtiss on June 7th at Saint Cecilia Cathedral with
a reception afterwards. Father Jeff will hold a solemn Mass of Thanksgiving
the next day at St. James Catholic Church. Following his ordination he
will assume duties as associate pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish in
Omaha. As quoted to the Catholic Voice Jeff said: "As I approach
ordination, my heart is overflowing with joy because I know this is where
the Lord wants me. There is nothing else I would rather do than be a priest."
We all congratulate Jeff on his achievement and wish him the best in his
new vocation.
MARY SOBCZYK TIES THE KNOT WITH DAVID MANLEY
Mary
and David were married on April 12th at St. Gerald Catholic Church with
the reception held in the adjacent Fellowship Hall. Approximately 300
people attended the event. Among the interesting items at the wedding
were a grooms cake was a Ducati motorcycle and a MINI Cooper Convertible
on a flat sheet cake that was made to look like a race track and the cars
were crossing the finish line that said Just Married.
Her family helped decorate the reception hall and her brother was the
DJ. For now they are living at her parents until after the honeymoon (they
will travel to Italy and Switzerland) when they move to Denver where David
starts his new job as an acoustical engineer. Mary is the daughter of
Jim and Margie Sobczyk.
FAMILY UPDATE FROM DAVE AND KATHY QUISTAD
I received a nice email fro Dave Quistad just filled with the comings
and goings of his family. I thought it would be nice to share portions
of it with everyone.
"Seth and his French wife have decided to settle in Switzerland where
he has assumed the position as Principal Trombone in the Zurich Tonhalle
(Symphony Orchestra.) Great orchestra, well funded and a permanent appointment.
Tough decision to leave Malaysia. What a wonderful country and people.
Will tour Scandinavia in May with the Nordic Brass Ensemble then do some
recording. Muriel, his wife is a violinist and plays freelance with the
opera and area ensembles. Our grandson, Evan is now almost 4 and speaks
many languages as he has lived in so many places. Paige, a Special Education
teacher has taken a few years off to get the family off to a good start.
She has Bayley 2 1/2 and Brock 7 months. She and her husband, Reed who
is an elementary teacher live very rural in Northeast Washington and enjoy
the pioneerish lifestyle immensely. Just bought a home on forty acres
in the "outback" by Republic, WA.
Kathy and I are still like kids in a candy shop. We've traveled the region
in winter, sailed the Pacific Northwest coast through fall, kayaked the
Canadian islands and just recently, paddled from Loreto, Baja California
to Agua Verde some fifty miles south. Still sore from that one. Last year
we traveled a small portion of the Amazon in a small boat guided by local
residents. Fantastic people but Tarzan doesn't live there!"
